Name: Bennett Gender: Male
Interests: I enjoy video games, especially RPGs and War Strategy games. Science fiction and fantasy stuff is interesting too, especially anything to do with robots and D&D. Out of all the card games I play, I enjoy Magic: The Gathering the most. I love watching anime, particularly anything related to mecha, comedy, or complete and utter randomness.
But most of all, I value my friends and family dearly and I enjoy spending time with them. To me, they are the most important things in my life. Expertise: I am probably an expert at being stubborn or intensely persistent (depending on how you look at it and the situation). In some cases, I can be pretty good with anime-related trivia. Hopefully I will become an expert in the field of Biochemistry and maybe a M.D. someday in the future. Occupation: Student

| It is the holiday season!! AND I HAVE NOT DONE ONE BIT OF CHRISTMAS SHOPPING!! :: shakes fist in rage at med school :: GI block and ECM midterm killed all my time these past 2 weeks and now I have a slew of shopping to do soon before all the Christmas specials disappear. But at least I AM FREE!!
So what sort of things do I want for Christmas this year... love and peace? universal healthcare? better economy? Nah... I am not trying to win a beauty pageant or anything. Actually... I am looking forward to things coming out next year... particularly the 1/144 O Raiser which has THE FREAKING SHIELD AND TWINBLADE ATTACHMENT FOR MY 00 GUNDAM!!! It will make the previous model infinitely better and kick it up a couple of knotches.
On a side note, I have begun playing Perfect World International. It is like WoW with a Chinese backdrop and free. BWAHAHAHAHA!!
Happy Holidays Everyone!! ^_^ V

| Finally... The Triple I Block (Immunity, Inflammation, and Infection) block is over and I cannot say that I will miss it. I will, however, admit my disappointment in my poor performance overall. Sure, it was a grueling 72 lecture block with innumerable case based learning and problem solving sessions, but all things considered I should have done better. And the worst part is I have only myself to blame. 1st year I could kinda blow it off, thinking "10% of USMLE Step 1" but now, this is serious stuff. In essense, I gotta stop screwing around...
SPEAKING OF SCREWING AROUND! I got a new model:
This is the 00 Gundam (pronounced Double O as in 007). IMO, it is a rather simple and elegant model. There are no fancy pop-out pieces or overly intricate mechanisms and yet it has a wider range of posability when compared to most other HG 1/144 models. In any case, the 00 Gundam is Setsuna's upgrade from Exia. It is unique in that it has not one, but two GN drives (the right one comes from O Gundam; the left one comes from Exia). This is the Twin Drive system, which squares the output of the GN drive.
As you can see, the GN drives can pivot. By default, they face laterally (OMG... WHY DID I USE THAT TERM HERE!!) and provide 00 Gundam with added mobility and evasion. They can be turned posteriorly (OMG AGAIN!!) to provide extra propulsion for launch and anteriorly (SOMEONE SHOOT ME!!) to generate a stream of GN particles capable of deflecting beam type weapons.
00 Gundam is equiped with 2 GN Beam Sabers and 2 GN Sword II. The GN Sword II resembles a cross between the GN Long Blade and GN Sword from Exia. Like the original GN Sword, it has a gun mode.
Like the GN Long Blade, it can be used as a sword.
In all honesty, my opinion of 00 Gundam is mixed. On the one hand, I love its simplicity; on the other, I miss the intricacies of the chest mounted GN drives (like in Exia; that design was very unique and interesting). In terms of the model itself, I have the same mixed feelings. Although it is super posable, it lacks several items, particularly the 2 piece shield (which, IMO, makes the shoulder mounted GN drives more appealing) and the ability to link the hilts of the GN Sword II (I had to craft my own special tube to link the blades).
BUT! I look forward to two things related to 00 Gundam: 1) O Raiser (which I predict acts like a GN Arms system and which Saji will pilot) 2) The 00Variation- SEVEN SWORDS!!

Exia was orignally code named "Seven Swords" so why not its successor? 00 Gundam equiped with: 2 GN Katars 2 GN Beam Sabers 1 GN Sword II Long (rifle and blade) 1 GN Sword II Short (blade and chain whip) 1 GIANT GN BUSTER SWORD II

On another note, I am still hammering out a way to effectively use Shards of Alara with Lorwyn/Shadowmoor but there is such a disparity between the two sets. We will see how things move along on that front.
Hope everyone is doing well. Again, as always, I apologize for my melodrama. ^_^ V

| Yet another month has passed and it is time for another one of Benny Chan's Rants and Raves Drama...
Or maybe not... So it has been 1.5 months since 2nd year started and if I have learned anything, it is that 2nd year is an entirely different beast. Actually, it is a bigger, badder, beast with double the sharp fangs and claws and 10x more ravenous (in Magic terms: Double Strike, Trample, and Rampage 4). But I guess it was to be expected. At the very least, I am learning more pathology and treatments now, which is pretty important if I want to be a doctor... LOL
OK! Time to get away from reality and dive into the fictional world of anime... particularly Yu Gi Oh 5D's. So the new installment of the YuGiOh franchise takes place in the future where people duel on bikes... yes I said BIKES! They have motorcycles with duel disks installed in them. The plot thus far revolves around the 5 Signers who possess birthmarks representing different parts of the Crimson Dragon (head, wings, tail, left claw, right claw). Apparently, each Signer has a token dragon.
Fudo Yusei- Protagonist of the the new series. His personality is more of a reflection of Atemu rather than Judai in that he is a calm, serious deulist who prizes his nakama over anything else. His ace, Stardust Dragon, reflects this in that its Victim Sanctuary special ability shields cards on the field. Personally, I am extremely pleased to see the protagonist using not only a dragon ace, but an ace that is actually usable in a tourney level deck. (Heck I even searched half of Hong Kong looking for this card!)
Jack Atlus (yes they made it given name then surname)- Yusei's rival. There is a history between these two that I will not get into. But if Yusei is Yugi, Jack is Kaiba. His insistence on being "King" is certainly a trademark characteristic of Kaiba Seto. His ace, Red Demon's Dragon, even reflects Blue Eyes White Dragon's stats.
Izayoi Aki- She plays the "I have an uncontrollable power and I fear it" sort of character. For some reason, she gives me a sort of "damsel in distress" feel as well. It is hard to pull a parallel here with anyone but her ace, Black Rose Dragon, has stats similar to Red Eyes Black Dragon. On a side note, Black Rose Dragon is also a viable synchro monster, with a built in Black Hole and Reduce Attack to 0 ability.
Ruca- One of the two twins with dragons. Her character is the weak, soft-spoken type and she has some connection with monster spirits. She has been in one duel thus far and it was not particularly inspiring honestly. Her dragon is Ancient Fairy Dragon but its abilities have not been revealed yet.
Rua- The other twin with dragons. If there were a character in 5D's with my personality, it is Rua. Overly enthusiastic and eager are Rua's trademarks. At this current point, we do not even know if he is a Signer. This is the great thing about opening and ending clips... they spoil or mislead you.
So all in all, 5 signers with 5 Dragons each with one of 5 parts on an ancient Dragon. Is it a wonder why the series is titled 5D's?
In another card game, Shards of Alara came out. It is an interesting set... I love the art but the multicolor aspect worries me. Ow well. ALL YOUR SARKHAN VOL ARE BELONG TO ME!!
Hope everyone is doing well. Drop me a line once in a while! ^_^ V

| So... I move into dorms for 2nd year tomorrow and I SHOULD be packing up my stuff... INSTEAD!! I will flash a few pictures of my trip to Hong Kong (way more fun IMO)!!
So my first day in Hong Kong was actually Felix's last day.
I honestly do not know if he is sad cause he is leaving or if he is sad to see me...
The next day, my family and I went on an excursion to Shin Zhen for lots and lots of food!

This was a rather comical catch...
OK! That wraps up family photos; onto the stuff I bought! So for some reason, this trip I went off on a Revoltech shopping spree! Let's start with...

Shin Getter 1!! By far one of my favorite, if not THE favorite, super robot ever!!

Mazinkaiser!! I love the Jet Scrandler and Kaiser Blade! But the king of all the Revoltech I bought was...

THE ARX-8 LAEVATEIN!! You might be wondering "ARX-8? That never appeared in FMP!!". The ARX-8, I believe, shows up in the novels. When I first saw this thing, I actually thought it looked like a cross between Arbalest and Viper. Only the Demolition Gun is depicted here; this kit came with daggers, knives, and shotguns galour!
Anyhow, back to boring packing and fearing the inevitable commencement of 2nd year. ^_^ V
CURRENT FINISHER - LAMBDA DRIVE
EDIT- This was rather amusing... (not my work) | | |
| T-minus 6 days until the beginning of 2nd year and I have no clue whether to be excited or nervous. But knowing me, this is completely normal.
So what has Benny Chan done for the past 2 weeks? Well, other than finishing my Alt Eisen Reize (refer to previous entry), I am finally in Hong Kong and trying my best not to gorge myself to an early grave due to heart disease and obesity. I have acquired a few of my must-buy items such as a Stardust Dragon, a cheap cover for my iPod Nano (which has served me surprisingly well so far), Super Robot Wars OG Gaiden (HAH! I have not even finished OG yet...), and a few Magic cards (props to my cousin Aaron; cards are SO MUCH CHEAPER than in NY... go figure...). I still have a few more odds and ends to pick up but I am moving at a decent pace. Of course, being me, I picked up a USMLE Step 1 study guide already (which does not mean I have gotten very far into it...). So far, all I can say is "OMFG! THAT BIOSTATISTICS STUFF REALLY IS ON THE STEPS!!". Hopefully, I will go over a few of the basic things before that Overview Block begins and I feel like a complete idiot for forgetting 85% of the stuff I learned 1st year. In any case, I will be back Friday, meaning Saturday will be a packing marathon.
I hope everyone else is doing well. ^_^ V
